INTRODUCTION
A.
Background
In
this globalization era, technology and society’s knowledge had developed so
fast, all social phenomenon occurred in the society is getting serious
attention. This criticism happened in all kind of subjects, social, culture,
economy, politic and many others. In this case, people are giving more
attention to health issues.
People’s
attention to the health issues can be seen from the rise of society’s needs in
having health information nowadays, for example: what is avian influenza? What
is the cause of HIV/AIDS? How do we prevent that? etc. Providing whatever the
information the society needs is the duty of public relation in hospital.
From
the explanation above, we can conclude that the function of public relation
itself is as a representative and coordinator of information traffic to the
society. Thus, public relation will understand the background of a policy and
decision to be taken.
Public
relation practitioners must be have multi ability, such as: ability to observe
and analyze a problem, ability to draw attention, ability to affect public
opinion, and ability to establish a cooperation and trust and close
relationship. From its function, public relation also must empower all
resources to achieve maximum result, and act as a “bridge” in delivering health
information from hospital or clinic to the society. For that reason, public
relation must be able to show their existence in the body of hospital so the
society knows where they can get information about health.
Thus,
the society need to be informed about realities and facts, especially is in
democratic era like now where information in every organization is forced to
able to provide accurate and simple information. By looking at people’s needs
in informing on health care in hospitals, the writer decided to perform further
discussion on the Role of Public Relation of Hospital in providing health
information to the society.

on the description above, the writer will focus the report on; “How is the role
of public relation of hospital in providing health information service
activities to the society.

Objectives
The
objective of this paper is to know the function of public relation in hospital
to improve health service activities to the society.

DISCUSSION
A.
The
Definition of Public Relation
In
the business world, public relation is more than words, symbols and increasing
sales, but also it becomes a hope for counseling source for the management.
There are many definitions about public relation, but they are still in the
same frame and objectives.
There are three
functions about public relation according to Edward L. Bernays:
1. to
give information to the society
2. to
give persuasions to the society to change their attitude and action
3. as
efforts to integrate manner and action from problems with the society and from
society to the problems.
B.
Definition
of Information
Information
is the main ingredients in communication. According to Gordon B. Davis, he
states “Information is a data that has
been processed into a form that has a meaning and real value to the receivers
and affecting the current or future decision”.
C. Definition of Public
“Public understanding
here is a group of people that has the same need in a certain problem”, according
to Soemirat Soleh, Drs, 2002:104.

Problem
Discussion
From the global view of the role of public relation in
hospital, the role of public relation here has no difference with other public
relation’s role.
The function of
public relation in hospital reviewed from all kinds of activities, tasks and
duties, is to provide health information services to the surrounding
communities.
The activities
held by the Public Relation of hospital are as follow:
1. gathering
health information needed by the society
2. holding
ceremonial events in hospital such as halal bihalal at Lebaran Feast activity
for the employees, shifting ceremonial from old hospital chief to the new
hospital chief.
3. making
flyers about health information
4. creating
cooperation with local authorities to hold a health information event, such as
information about Tuberculosis, the danger of Aedes Agepty, ect.
The steps taken by Public Relation of hospital in
preparing its activities are as follow:
1. Planning
Public Relation is taking first step such as making work frame plan for
the development of hospital.
2. Arranging
Useful to specify personnel’s step for the next work system
3. Operating
and manufacturing
Public relation along with other divisions are working their own duties
and to receive all kind of critics and suggestion which will be discussed in
the next meeting.
4. Distributing
Public relation handles the process of making internal media and then
distributes it to the employees.

Kinds
of Health Information Distributed by the Public Relation in Hospital
1. Spreading
information (usually stuck in the information board) about kinds of disease and
how to overcome those are. The disease such
as avian influenza, tuberculoses, fever, HIV-AIDS, chicken Pox, etc.
2. Spreading
information about how is taking care pregnant mother to minimize the risk of
death.
3. Spreading
information about the importance of Birth Control in the family.
4. Spreading
information about the importance of early teeth treatment.

CONCLUSION

Conclusion
From the explanation in discussion above, the writer,
conclude that:
1. health
information provided by the public relation of hospital is satisfying because
it has support from all related sides.
2. in
performing information manufacture, the public relation of hospital has
established good cooperation or coordination with other department.
3. to
health information provided by the public relation can add more knowledge to
the society about the importance of health to the society.
4. the
function of public relation of hospital is providing information service to
maintain the credibility of hospital to the society.
